Liverpool Will Not Appeal Agger Red
Despite Daniel Agger's hope that Liverpool would appeal the red card he received against West Bromwich Albion for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, the club has decided against doing so. Given that the Premier League rarely reverses the on-field decisions of its officials when they are appealed and that there was clear contact between Agger and West Brom striker Shane Long—even if that contact was minimal—it would never have been a challenge the club could have hoped to win.
As such, accepting Agger's one match ban and moving on seems clearly the best course of action, especially considering that the league could have doubled the defender's punishment had it deemed any appeal frivolous.
