Liverpool star Jordan Henderson speaks out after being snubbed for England captaincy

He’d been tipped to get the nod ahead of Harry Kane after leading Liverpool to the Champions League final.
Some players would have been hurt, even upset that they’d been kept in the dark a full six weeks after Southgate had broken the news to Kane.
But Henderson refused to let the decision get him down.
He said: “The manager rang me on the Tuesday in the week leading up to the final.
“I wasn’t thinking about it because of the final and that is where my focus was. When the gaffer told me, I was really pleased for Harry. He’s a fantastic player.”
Southgate knows that armband or no armband, Henderson will still be one of his key lieutenants out on the pitch in Russia.
The 27-year-old has grown into the captain’s role under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
