Liverpool have a genuine chance at winning the Premier League title next season

Liverpool finished fourth in the Premier League last season, were knocked out of the League Cup in the third round and the FA Cup in the fourth round, but they reached the Champions League final - beating English champions Manchester City in the semi-finals. Jurgen Klopp’s men have proven they can beat the best in England and now they’ll look to prove they can stay consistent over 38 games next season.

The Reds have strengthened their midfield brilliantly this summer, adding a more combative and commanding influence to allow more freedom to their goal-laden attack. Only Manchester City scored more goals (106) than Liverpool (84) last season, but no club in the top-five conceded more than the Merseysiders (38) either which is part of their problem.

Klopp addressed this with the signings of Fabinho from AS Monaco and Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, but he could still do with adding two more names to fix their problems from last season – a goalkeeper and defender. Nevertheless, online betting sites have Liverpool at 5/1 to win the title.

Liverpool’s weakest point is still defensively

Liverpool could do with a new goalkeeper and another centre-back for next season. The Reds have Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet as first and second-choice between the sticks, but neither shot-stopper has proven he can be trusted over the full course of a season.

Klopp can’t keep putting up with Liverpool have a genuine chance at winning the Premier League title next season assured for a lot of last season, but it’s still not perfect even after signing van Dijk. If Klopp can address the two problem areas this summer, there’s no reason why the Reds can’t realistically challenge.
